Focus Story: Global collaboration to combat illegal trade in rhinoceros horn
Although progress has been made in addressing it, rhinoceros poaching and horn trafficking remain a challenge. The complexity of the matter is exacerbated by the involvement of transnational organized crime groups capitalizing on the commodity value of these horns. Addressing these crimes demands a strong and coordinated law enforcement response across source, transit and destination countries.
A CITES Rhinoceros Enforcement Task force meeting was convened to develop strategies and propose actions to further strengthen responses to address rhinoceros poaching and trafficking.
